DENISA
FULMEKOVá
Denisa Fulmeková belongs to the middle generation of Slovak writers, and with her broad genre spectrum, she has a reader base in all age categories. She was born in Bratislava and grew up in a family with a strong cultural background. Graduating in journalism at the Faculty of Philosophy of the Comenius University in Bratislava (1989), she started her career as a journalist in magazines focused on culture and literature in various positions and, simultaneously, she also started her literary career.
In 2001, she published a collection of short stories, Tak, čo teda? (So what then?) under the pseudonym Mina Murrayová. Since then, she has written 24 novels, popular books, and a collection of poetry. In her novels and short stories, which were published in the first decade of the millennium, she mostly deals with female, often taboo topics (motherhood in various forms, pregnancy, tensions in family relationships, etc.).
In 2016, the story of her grandparents from the period of the 2nd World War was published, the novel Konvália (Lily of the valley), which was ranked in the last ten authors of the prestigious literary award Anasoft litera 2017. With her next book Doctor Mraz, published in 2018, she was in the Anasoft litera top ten again. Her latest novel is a psychological reflection on female maturation (aging) and the balance of family life, Úzkosť (Anxiety, 2022).
Denisa Fulmeková lives in Bratislava and continues to write books while remaining active in printed media.
